Pet Sitter Job Description:

Position Purpose: The Jill’s Next Door IC position must align with the company’s goals in providing the highest of industry standard with knowledgeable, ethical, and attentive pet care. The position requires service excellence and peace of mind to pet owners and their loved ones by offering comfort and trust to clients by relying on our ethics and moral fabric.

Responsibilities:

  • Care for all domestic pets: mainly cats and dogs, also rabbits, birds, fish, small caged animals;
  • Receive pet care assignments from Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services, LLC via email, text messaging, and through a scheduling app called Time to Pet;
  • Attend new client meet and greets;
  • Care for all domestic pets in clients’ homes (30, 45, 60 minute visits, multiple hours);
  • Perform full overnight services 7am-9pm, and/Almost Overnights (90 minutes in the evening, 30 minutes in the am);
  • Perform mid-day daily dog walking assignments for clients during the work day or while out;
  • Remain in text or email contact with the client via Time to Pet;
  • Feed pets each visit (if requested by client) refresh water all visits, walk, clean cages/litterboxes, playtime, clean pet area, meds and supplements if necessary (no injections). Clean up any pet related messes;
  • General home over site during pet sitting visits. Retrieve mail, packages, and newspapers and bring them inside client’s home. Adjust interior and exterior home lighting (if needed), plant watering, house security;
  • Send reports immediately after every visit in real time through Time to Pet including pictures of pets from the visit;
  • Work in tandem with owner and team of sitters;
  • Provide add-on concierge services if requested by client;
  • Provide Pet Taxi services as needed;
  • Provide vacationers with hotel, AirBnB, rental pet care;
  • Provide house checks for clients that are away without pets;
  • Consider attending paid vender community events, and additional paid services (wedding pet attendants, canine aqua fitness with guidance).

 

Position Requirements:

  • Applicant must be natural care takers, love pets, and have pet/animal experience;
  • Applicant must have their own insured, licensed, reliable car and hold a valid Florida driver’s license;
  • Applicant must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and present valid photo identification;
  • Applicant must be willing to undergo and pass a comprehensive criminal background check;
  • Applicant must have a flexible schedule and attend all scheduled pet services with agreed upon schedule;
  • Applicant should make time for proper onboarding, orientation, and shadowing; 
  • Applicant must manage their book of clients by updating client profiles with new information, responding right away to client messages, and manage client keys;
  • Utilize our master schedule to request time off;
  • Applicant must understand and abide by the IC contract, laws, Code of Ethics, and JND policies and procedures;
  • Applicant must be able to walk long periods of time and lift at least 30 pounds;
  • Applicant must be able to walk dogs and be outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Applicant must be willing to pick-up dog poop, clean up pet related messes, and scoop litter boxes;
  • Applicant must possess excellent written and texted English communication skills;
  • Applicant must be well groomed, neat, tidy, wear smart/professional athletic wear, refrain from smoking as well as profanity and vulgarity while working;
  • Applicant must be respectful of Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services’ clients, their homes, their property, and their privacy, and be neat and tidy while working and staying overnight inside the client’s home;
  • Applicant must have access to the internet to receive assignments and have Time to Pet and text messaging on their smart phone for full assignment coverage;
  • Applicant must be willing to drive the coverage area;
  • Applicant must be willing to make at least a 6 month independent contractor commitment to work with Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services’ LLC and be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure/Non-Solicitation/IC Agreement as a condition of independent contractor relationship. Understand the ramifications of these agreements are breached;
  • Applicant must align with JND’s mission and vision;
  • Applicants must understand that JND clients cannot be solicited by the sitter for their own gain, or redirected to personal pet sitting services;
  • Applicants must submit quarterly performance reviews, administered by JND and We will measure the fulfillment of the responsibilities outlined in this position description;
  • Must feel motivated to work independently, with guidance from the team and Jill. Follow directives of client and JND policies and procedures. 
  • Applicants must be in timely communication with the JND team via Slack and our private Facebook sitter group.

 

Skill Set and Natural Abilities:

  • The ability to provide top notch care;
  • The motivation to learn and grow your book of business with sitter financial incentives.
  • Pet sitting and/or in-home pet care experience a plus;
  • Veterinary technician or pet certification is a plus;
  • Dog training is a plus;
  • Experience administering pills, and/or pet physical therapy is a plus

 

Compensation: Pet sitters are paid as Independent Contractors once a week with base and client tips. A transparent breakdown of sitter earnings will be provided upon inquiry.

Hours: This is not a full time job and hours are not guaranteed. Opportunity to work any day of the week day or evening as client requests arise. The more clients and visits you take on, the more you will make. This is an on-call position as jobs become available within our coverage area. This is a wonderful position for anyone looking for supplemental income. 

Additional Information:

All pet visitations must be reported to Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services. Pet sitters will be issued a 1099 and will be responsible for paying their own taxes. Independent Contractor Agreement with Non-Disclosure/Non-Solicitation clause to be signed prior to being contracted as a pet sitter for Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services.

Solicitation for business is acceptable on behalf of Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services, however, any free-lance visitations using the name of Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services’ is strictly forbidden and will be subject to prosecution.

Jill’s Next Door Dog Walking & Pet Services communicates through Time to Pet scheduling software, text messaging, and phone calls. If you turn off your phone or do not readily and immediately respond to text messaging using proper grammar and etiquette, this position is not for you.
